About us...
In 1985 a very curious little boy with a knack for all things mechanical, picked up a spanner, stood on tiptoes and peered beneath the open bonnet of his father’s newly acquired sunset orange 1972 Volkswagen beetle;
that’s how he caught the bug(!) and he’s been addicted ever since....
Who are we?
With over 10 years experience in the automotive industry, Outermotive is a family business. We offer vw related services and products to customers throughout the UK. Established in 2005, we are located in Warwick.
Background
Colin Shoobridge BEng (hons) has been involved in the Automotive industry for many years and runs the company with his wife Karen, who always dreamt of one day owning a VW Camper! We used one as our wedding vehicle last year (of course!) and our boys are VW fans too!
Services we provide
The business provides individuals with a range of services including VW Camper and Beetle Sales, a Workshop for all your VW Professional Servicing and Repairs, Mot Preparation and Restoration, also Parts and Products and useful information on VW Campervan Hire & Ownership. For those difficult to find and obsolete parts, we can offer a bespoke design and manufacture service. Our experience ensures that our customers get out on the road in style. Our services are tailored to meet your needs every time.
Products
We offer Gift Vouchers which can be redeemed against any service or parts that we offer! We are often breaking vw's so we often have a range of 2nd hand classic VW parts available. The range of VW related products we supply is an area we are expanding. We will be adding relevant products in order for all VW enthusiasts to help complete their beloved projects!
Early days
Colin's journey into the world of motoring actually started before the 1972 sunset orange beetle, when in 1984 he found himself helping his dad to build a baja bug. Colin was just 6 years of age!! Since then, he continued to help his dad on various projects and finally came to own his very own bug in 1999, having spent many hours getting very excited at vw festivals and drag racing meets such as the infamous Bug Jam!
Qualifications
With his passion for all things on 4 wheels it seemed only right to do a degree in Automotive Engineering at Oxford Brookes University, which after 4 yrs hard work earned him his degree with honours. From there Colin went straight into the workplace joining a Rally Team team and became involved in the World Rally Championship…. it should be added, all the while tending to his own projects on VW's outside of his working hours (which admittedly weren't many!).
Motorsport Career
Colin went on to have a full and varied career in Motorsport working as a Senior Technician and Race Engineer. He worked with motorsport companies in the British Touring Car Championship, the World Rally Championship, the National Historic Rally Championship, the Porsche Carrera Cup, British Rally Championship, Le Mans 24 Hour Race, FIA and the British GT Championship.
In the Press
During his first year in the workplace, Colin owned a VW Golf Mark 1 GTi which was parked up in the workshop of the Rally team. A journalist had come to do an article on the company and spotted Colin's car there. The journalist then asked if he could also do an article on the Golf, which was duly featured in
VW Motoring Magazine!
